WHAT IS A DIGIPACK?
A digipak is a technique of packaging CD's. The front of a digipak usually holds the title of the album along with the name of the artist.

PURPOSE?

  • Represent different aspects of the music

  • Represent different aspects of the artist or band

  • Protects the CD

  • Provides lyrics

  • Provides production details

  • Track-list

  • Warnings e.g. explicit

  • Social media

  • Code for digital copy

  • Barcode

LAYOUT

-The Layout of the Digipaks is a 3 sections design. This means that it is like a CD, with an extra panel.
On one of the Digipaks, the CD is on one of the outside panels, on the other, there are two CDs, which are both on the outer panels.

An image of the artist is also used or sometimes a well known image that represents the artist. Sometimes there is a Thank You page and is used to make the digipak more personal; it demonstrates how much the artist appreciates that you bought this digipak. A track list is always involved in a digipak, specifically on the back. It makes the audience aware of which tracks are featured on this album and what order they will be played in. The record company and copyright owner of the album is also presented on the digipak. On the back there is often a barcode which when scanned will take you to some sort of website or social media involved with the artist.

The digipak benefits the artist because it exemplifies the artist's image and is an easy form of communication with their target audience. They could also be used as promotional strategies, releasing a limited number of digipaks would bring great awareness to the artist and would encourage the audience to buy their album.
