GRIME GENRE
Grime is a genre of music that emerged in East London in the early 2000s. It is primarily a development of UK garage and jungle. Prominent artists include Dizzee Rascal, Ghetts, Kano, Lethal Bizzle, Skepta and Wiley.
Formed, in U.K. garage and jungle, Jamaican dance hall and American hip-hop, grime grew from its base in East London as a form of expression against the oppression facing these young voices on a daily basis. But it's not all that deep: sonically—sharp-shooting flows, delivered on palettes of icy synths and guttural bass—it was new, exciting, full of bounce, and quickly garnered interest from fans and critics alike.
Grime:
Grime is a genre of music which is well known to the British culture. In the year 2000 is the grime became established by the British culture. Grime music has a whole range of different genres of music inside the genre, it has hip hop, UK Garage and Dancehall. Most grime artists started their career at a young age which is in between 11-21.
Dizzee Rascal, Wiley and Kano made grime more popular and made it mainstream in 2003 and 2004. Channel U which was a channel on Sky is where all of the grime artists were played and then became famous through that.
Rappers also promoted there music to become recognised, they used to go to barbers, hairdressers and giving out their mixtapes and also gave it to anyone that looked like they were interested singular on the street. They would also go to town centres and give out their mixtapes as there are a lot of young people walking around.
Grime is a genre of music which involves words that are said quickly and rhythmically over an instrumental backing track. Grime is a mix between garage jungle, hip hop and Ragga. In this genre there are a lot of upcoming artists such as Giggs, Chipmunk, Tempa T, Lowkey, Stormzy and more.
UK Grime is mainly linked with south London “gangs” because of the gang life which they have been though it give the artists a chance to express their life and feeling through the life which they have lived. As there is a lot of gang life in ‘Grime’ a lot of artists have once been in prison, where they also have the chance to write raps or learn rap inside prison. On the other hand grime is becoming more and more popular around the world and there is more American radio station playing grime on their stations. The reason why grime has become more popular is because of an English radio DJ named ‘Charlie Sloth’ who dedicated his radio station mainly on grime. In 2014 MOBO awards introduces a new award ‘best grime artist’ which the upcoming grime artist ‘Stormzy’ had won, and also in 2015 Stormzy won a ‘BET’ award for best UK rap Artist.
Representation is the portrayal or description of something or someone in certain way.
In my music video my artist will be able to represent a variety of groups in the target audience. First of all my artist is a male, this means that he will be able to represent all types of males. Ways that my music video can help to impose that on the genre that it fall into. Hip Hop / Grime is seen as a mainly male genre of music as it is dominated by males. There are many female artists in the hip hop/grime scene such as Lady Leshurr, Ms Dynamite, and Paigey Cakey etc. there’s only a small amount compared to all the male artists.
Another group that will be represented in my music video is the black heritage depending if they are Caribbean or African people whose family are from those places but they were born in the UK. A way which the artist represent themselves is thee clothes which the wear in the music video. The clothing which they wear are usually baggy and they tend to wear a lot of jewellery. This clothing is seen to be stereotypical look upon black males mainly in the UK and the US. This is a general convention of a grime/ hip hop video.
In my opinion the representation in my music video will attract my target audience because it will include some popular features of a music video. This will mean my audience will be able to find out the song which I am going used, the artist which I used and the video. These will be shown in a manner that my target audience will be accustomed to.
